This category is open to all community and voluntary groups who operate on a not-for-profit basis

What are the judges looking for? 

For this category the judges are looking for examples of good practice from within the community or from voluntary groups. Particularly welcome would be entries that demonstrate wide inclusion and easy replication.

Who has won in the past? 

Previous winners of the Community & Voluntary Action category include:

  • 2006 Craignish Village Hall - an environmentally sustainably constructed village hall, providing a facility for the whole community and reducing their need to travel to neighbouring areas to participate in social activities
  • 2007 Energy Agency - a wind farm development that provided the local community with funding to be more energy efficient and distributed free insulation.
  • 2008 3 Acorns Eco-audits and City Bridge Trust - The 3 Acorns Eco-audits project for the City Bridge Trust "Greening the Third Sector," which eco-audited a wide range of London's charities including Centrepoint, RNID, The East London Mosque and NCVO, won the top award in the 2007/8 Green Apple
